Tas: Two vets on anthrax charges
LAUNCESTON, Dec 6 AAP - Two West Australian veterinarians will appear in court in February
charged with introducing anthrax into Tasmania without permission.
Amber Claire Lavery and Paul Anthony Collier did not appear in Launceston Magistrates
Court today and their case was adjourned to February 14.
The pair are charged with introducing anthrax into Tasmania, where it was used in March
to vaccinate cattle at 10 farms in the north of the state in preparation for their export
to the Middle East.
It is not illegal to bring anthrax vaccination materials into Tasmania but permission
must be sought.
The cattle vaccine contains a non-virulent strain of the bacteria and is not considered
harmful to humans.
