Qld: Nats back curfew powers

BRISBANE, Jan 13 AAP - The Queensland Opposition today backed a call to give councilsthe power to impose curfews on juveniles.
Cairns Mayor Kevin Byrne has called for greater powers to crack down on gangs of youthstroubling tourists and locals in the popular north Queensland city.
"These are gangs of kids aged from around 12 to 18 and they're getting away with intimidation,thuggery and assaults, and the authorities seem powerless to stop them," Cr Byrne saidin a statement.
