Qld: Modern art gallery opens

Premier PETER BEATTIE says visitors to Queensland's new Gallery of Modern Art will
find themselves gobsmacked.

Mr BEATTIE has officially opened the gallery .. which forms part of a 291 million dollar
redevelopment of Brisbane's South Bank cultural precinct.

The premier's described it as one of the best galleries in the world.

It opens to the public tomorrow.

It'll be home to more than 11-hundred contemporary art works .. making it the largest
gallery of modern art in Australia.

The opening exhibition will be the fifth Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art.

Admission to the gallery tomorrow will be free .. with contemporary music .. poetry
.. live theatre and dance.

The festivities will run over the weekend and include a concert on Sunday in the city
gardens featuring hip-hop artist Scribe.
